Integrating Infant Safe Sleep into Expectant and New Parent Programs

The fourth webinar of CSN’s Community of Practice on integrating infant/child injury prevention into programs and services for expectant parents was held on Wednesday, January 30th). The webinar focused on best practices in educating expectant parents on safe sleep and Sudden Unexpected Infant Death (SUID) and explored how we can weave safe sleep practices into infant health development for greater retention, impact, and application of safe sleep practices. The webinar presenter, Hanan Kallash, has a diverse public health background with over 20 years of public health education and training experience. Since 2002, Ms. Kallash has been conducting trainings in SIDS risk reduction and bereavement support sensitivity workshops across the nation representing the National Sudden Unexpected Infant Death and Pregnancy Loss Program Support Center and First Candle/SIDS Alliance, as well as the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD). She has trained over 2,000 nurses and 400 pharmacists and allied healthcare professionals, presenting at over 40 national and regional professional conferences. While earning a Master's degree in Emergency Health Services, focused on Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine, she was a Shriver Peace Worker Fellow at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County combining ethical reflection and service learning with graduate studies. She is currently working on her Family Nurse Practitioner degree at Virginia Commonwealth University and is a practicing medical, surgical, and trauma intensive care unit nurse.
