Dear Bullying Prevention Topic Team,

To those of you who were able to join the Bullying Prevention Topic Call in April– thanks for your participation! I hope that this summary will also be helpful to those who were unable to participate.

First, some important and timely information:

  • Please remember to submit your monthly report(s) to the CSLC portal by the end of this month. As you know, keeping track of your accomplishments and progress over time is one of the important functions of the CSLC. Even if you don’t have any quantitative data to report, please fill out the narrative fields with any qualitative data you may have. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out: lgilman@edc.org
  • Storyboards for this cohort are due by May 30th. I am looking forward to seeing this visual representation of your bullying prevention work! You can go Image removed. here for more information about the purpose and structure of storyboards, along with some great examples. I would be happy to review a draft or be a thought partner as you develop your slides. Please submit them to me directly at lgilman@edc.org

Two states provided some updates on recent activities and progress:

  • In Kentucky, two additional health districts will be implementing Sources of Strength, an evidence-based bullying prevention program, in their school districts. This brings the total number of participating health districts to 10. They are currently working at gathering and reviewing data on the reach and impact of this program.
  • The Massachusetts Department of Public Health is implementing the OIweus Bullying Prevention Program at 14 community-based sites (up from 7 sites last year). Their focus is to create a culture of belonging at all youth-serving environments. They are also planning to present new infographics about bullying and violence prevention to multiple audiences.

  Upcoming:

  • We have two upcoming CSN webinars – please visit our website at https://www.childrenssafetynetwork.org/ to register
  • Tuesday, April 22nd at 3pm ET: Insights from Title V on Partnering with Federally Funded Programs
  • Wednesday, April 30th at 1pm ET: Preventing Pediatric Vehicular Heatstroke
  • As always, if you would like to schedule some customized technical assistance, feel free to reach out, either via email or by using the TA Request Form.

For those of you continuing into Cohort 2, you will be receiving information about orientation meetings and upcoming events in the next few weeks. I’m excited to report that we will have a much larger Bullying Prevention Topic Team: 6 states have applied to join the CSLC for BP!

I hope you are enjoying the spring weather, whatever that feels like where you are. Please stay in touch!

  Lauren
