State Updates
Nebraska
- Onboarding new staff and continuing work with the Nebraska Perinatal Quality Improvement Collaborative (NPQIC)
Missouri
- Missouri Perinatal Quality Collaborative
- Leveraging the Center for Local Public Health Services to reach county-level partners across 115 local agencies.
Illinois
- Implementing safe sleep simulations in prisons for pregnant individuals and staff.
- Exploring formal partnerships (MOUs) to expand this work. Will share back (Chris from CA asked specifically)
- PQC did a safe sleep initiative
California
- Continuing work through the Parent Voices Project.
Colorado
- Strong statewide efforts through a statutorily mandated perinatal collaborative.
- Key initiatives:
- Colorado Perinatal Care Quality Collaborative's Newborn Evidence-Based Sleep Teaching (NEST) Initiative
- Crib audits with education for at-risk families
- Partnerships with programs like Cribs for Kids

- To make the diaper bag tags, we print the information on business cards and then insert them in these clear luggage tags from Amazon
- Our health department has a Baby & Me Tobacco Free program and a Breastfeeding Peer Counselor program who both distribute these materials to their clients
North Dakota
- Planning a community baby shower with prevention resources (e.g., smoking cessation, car seats).
- Partnering with methadone treatment providers.
- Expanding outreach to Tribal Health Directors through North Dakota Perinatal Quality Collaborative (NDPQC)
Utah
- Strong integration between the health department and Utah Women & Newborns Quality Collaborative (UWNQC)
- Use of Project ECHO for statewide provider training.
- Cross-promotion of safe sleep with other maternal/child health initiatives.
- Children’s hospital adopting Charlie’s Kids resources.
Cross-Cutting Themes
- Strong emphasis on partnerships (health departments, hospitals, community programs, corrections systems).
- Growing use of quality collaboratives (PQCs) to drive systems-level change.
- Expansion of safe sleep education across settings (hospitals, clinics, prisons, community events).
