Insights from a National Epidemic: The Medicine Abuse Project

This session will clearly illustrate the nature, extent and underlying attitudes/beliefs related to intentional medicine misuse and abuse behavior within the general population. It will identify proactive steps, resources and tools to effectively address the issue. Participants will understand the positive role they can play as well as the broader network of organizations working to reduce prescription and OTC medicine abuse. Finally, the presenters will detail the range of beneficial free resources provided by a range of association, nonprofit and government organizations available for use at the community level and assembled via The Medicine Abuse Project.

About Our Presenters:

Steve Pasierb is the President and CEO of The Partnership at Drugfree.org. He leads the nation's largest nonprofit organization dedicated to evidence-based solutions to adolescent substance use disorders. In addition to its renowned programs in prevention, intervention and in support of treatment including The Medicine Abuse Project, The Partnership recently completed the acquisition of Join Together from Boston University, the acquisition of The Meth Project Foundation and became the program lead on the national teen drug use prevention campaign Above The Influence.

Marcia Lee Taylor is Senior Vice President for Government Affairs at the Partnership at Drugfree.org. Previously, she served as the Senior Advisor for Drug Policy and Research for the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime and Drugs and the Democratic Staff Director of the Senate Caucus on International Narcotics Control, working for then-Senator Joseph R. Biden, Jr.
