About this Webinar:
In 2012, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), National Center for Injury Prevention and Control (NCIPC) released the National Action Plan for Child Injury Prevention (NAP). Based on the public health model, the NAP framework provides a vision which guides actions and explores the role of federal, state, local, public, and private partners in the prevention of childhood injury. This five part webinar series, brought to you by the Children's Safety Network (CSN) National Injury and Violence Prevention Resource Center and The National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO), will explore four of the NAP's domains: 1) Data and Surveillance, 2) Communication, 3) Policy and 4) Education (two webinars will focus on this topic, one on education and one on training).
The fourth webinar in our series on the NAP, on January 30, 2014, 3:00 pm – 4:15 pm Eastern Time, will feature Dr. Julie Gilchrist of the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control (NCIPC). Dr. Gilchrist will provide a quick overview of the NAP and review the NAP's education and training domain and its implications for local health departments. The next speaker, Michael Bernstein, is the Health Educator for Injury Prevention at the Southern Nevada Health District and focuses on drowning prevention. Our third speaker, Emilie Crown, Program Manager Child Passenger Safety Program, Office of the Fire Chief, Montgomery County Fire Rescue will discuss local strategies, challenges and successes to engage communities in education around injury prevention for children through a community partnership project related to child passenger safety. Our fourth speaker, Larry Branche from Fitzgerald Auto Mall will join Emilie in discussing child passenger safety partnerships.
